존엄사 결정에서 윤리의 역할
본 논문에서는 존엄사의 의미를 어떻게 수용하고 정당화하고 있는지 를 고찰하고, 연명의료결정에 논점을 맞추어 윤리적 성찰에서 요구되 는 체크리스트의 내용을 제안하고자 한다. 죽음을 맞이하는 준비는 관련 당사자들이 삶의 어느 시점에서 하든 자연스러운 것이다. 그런데도 아직까지는 임종이 임박한 경우조차 치 료의 중단이나 죽음의 준비에 대해 소통을 하는 것이 쉽지 않다. 제도 적으로는 이미 연명의료결정의 가이드라인이 제시되고 있지만 가치관 에 따라 이것을 수용하는 데 혼란을 겪고 있다. 본 논문은 연명의료결정 제도가 시행되고 있는 상황에서 존엄사 수 용의 혼란을 줄이기 위하여 윤리가 기여할 수 있는 역할을 찾아본다. 우선 존엄사의 개념을 이해하기 위해서 생명과 죽음의 의미가 어떻게 구성되고 있는지 살펴볼 것이다. 다음으로 존엄사가 어떤 방식으로 정 당화되고 있는지 고찰할 것이다. 이를 바탕으로 해서 일명 존엄사로 알려져 왔던 연명치료중단의 결정 상황에서 성찰해야 할 윤리적 체크 리스트의 내용구성요소들을 제안하고자 한다.
The Role of Ethics in the Determination of Death with Dignity
In this paper, I will examine the significance of death with dignity. I will look for ethical problems in accepting death with dignity in Korea. I would like to propose the role of bioethics education by focusing on Decision for Life Prolongation Treatment of Patients. The preparation for the death is natural at any point in life. However, it is not easy to communicate about discontinuation of treatment even when the end of life is imminent. There is already a Act on Decision for Life Prolongation Treatment of Patients. longevity medical decision law. But it is confusing to accept this. More important than the law is to make ethical efforts for human respect because individual values are respected. In this paper, I try to find out how to cope with the issue of death with dignity from an ethical point of view. First of all, I will look at how the meaning of life and death is composed. Next, I will examine how death with dignity is justified. Ethical considerations will then be made to reduce the problem of value confusion arising from the suspension of Life Prolongation Treatment of Patients.
