정치적 책임과 민주주의 - 한나 아렌트와 아이리스 영의 논의를 중심으로 -
이 글은 정치적 책임 개념을 한나 아렌트와 아이리스 영의 논의를 토대로 분석하고 검토함으로써 그러한 개념이 오늘날 민주주의의 실행 에 있어 갖는 실천적 의미를 구체적으로 해명하는 데 있다. 이를 위하 여 먼저 아렌트의 정치적 책임 개념을 살펴보고 이어서 영이 아렌트의 논의를 바탕으로 발전시킨 정치적 책임 개념을 검토하고자 한다. 결론 에서는 아렌트가 제시하고 영이 발전시킨 정치적 책임 개념이 개인주 의와 파편화, 억압과 배제에 시달려 약화되고 있는 민주주의를 시민의 소통과 포용에 기초한 실질적 민주주의로 변화시킬 수 있는 이론적 단 서를 제공한다고 주장할 것이다. 더불어 정치적 책임 개념이 이론적 개념에 머무르지 않고 구체적인 현실성을 지닌 실천적 미덕으로 자리 하기 위해서는 공감과 비판적 사고에 초점을 맞춘 교육이 보다 적극적 으로 이루어져야할 필요가 있다고 주장할 것이다.
Political Responsibility and Democracy - Focusing on Hannah Arendt’s and Iris Marion Young’s Theory -
This paper will deal with the concept of political responsibility based on Hannah Arendt and Iris Marion Young’s political theory. Especially, I will specifically explain the significance of such a concept of political responsibility in the practice of democracy today by analyzing and critically examining their political theory. Firstly, I will look at Arendt’s concept of political responsibility as collective responsibility. Secondly, I will examine Iris Marion Young’s theory of political responsibility that Young developed based on Hannah Arendt’s concept. Lastly, I will argue that the concept of political responsibility provides theoretical clues that could achieve real democracy in a plural society. In addition, I will maintain that in order for the concept of political responsibility to become a practical virtue rather than a theoretical concept education focusing on empathy and critical thinking should come first.
