This thesis examines the relationship between the Mādhyamika thought and the Yogācāra thought, focusing on Paticcasamuppada (緣起). Mādhyamika Thought developed the theory of ontological and logical Paticcasamuppada among the general Paticcasamuppada of early Buddhism and broke the theory of substance of Abhidharma Buddhism. On the other hand, the Yogācāra thought further developed the psychological and value theory of Paticcasamuppada in the early Buddhism by changing the theory of Karmic paticcasamuppada from the viewpoint of Mahayana Buddhism. These two thoughts showed a lot in common in many aspects until the early days of Yogācāra thought, but with the emergence of “aspectarians” (sākāravāda) in the Yogācāra tradition, they showed various differences of opinion and led to controversy. In this process, each view asserting these relationships as a difference of superiority and inferiority appeared, but they have an irrational aspect of placing the other's ideology as inferior, taking the central concept of their own ideology as the standard. Therefore, it is reasonable to regard the relationship between the two ideas as an idea that has developed into an ontological and an epistemological aspect by using different methodologies while taking the Idea of Emptiness of the Prajñāpāramitā Sutra as a common ground.
