미래 세대에 대한 윤리적 책임의 문제 - 공리주의적 논변을 중심으로 -
이 논문은 미래 세대에 대한 윤리적 책임과 관련하여 공리주의의 여 러 입장들과 그 문제점들에 대해 살펴본다. 세대 간 정의론은 아직 존 재하지 않는 미래 세대를 다루기 때문에 어려운 점이 있으며 그래서 파핏은 누구에 대한 책임인지를 물으면서 ‘비동일성 문제’를 제기한다. 또한 여러 공리주의적 입장에 대해서는 ‘당혹스러운 결론’이나 ‘불합리 한 결론’을 함축하고 있다는 비판이 가해진다. 여기서는 이러한 문제들 과 관련하여 고전적 공리주의와 평균 공리주의가 어떤 입장을 취하고 있으며 그 문제점은 무엇인지를 검토한다. 나아가 선호 공리주의 입장 을 취하고 있는 싱어가 그러한 문제들에 대응하기 위해 내세운 ‘선호 에 대한 차변 견해’와 선호와 무관한 ‘본질적 가치’ 견해가 과연 성공 적인지를 검토한다.
Future Generations and Ethical Responsibility - Focused on the Arguments of Utilitarianism -
I discuss about the arguments of utilitarianism over ethical responsibility to future generations and their problems. The theories of intergenerarational justice have difficult problems because they deal with future generations who do not exist yet. D. Parfit asks for whom we have responsibility and insists that those theories have the Non-Identity Problem. And some critics say that the utilitarian theories imply the Repugnant Conclusion or the Absurd Conclusion. I examine what viewpoints the classical utilitarianism and the average utilitarianism have and what problems they imply. P. Singer supports the preference utilitarianism and takes the debit view of preference and the view of intrinsic value that is independent of preference to solve the problems. I examine whether his theoretical attempts to solve the problems is successful.
