영성의 기능적 특성 이해와 도덕교육 적용 가능성 탐색
인간의 영성은 종교성과는 구별되는 보편적 특성으로서 인간 존재의 고유한 특성이며 초월적 대상을 파악하는 과정에 작동하는 인식적 기능이기도 하다. 1986년 데이비드 호킨스(David R. Hawkins)에 의해 제시된 호모 스피릿투스(Homo Spiritus) 는 기존의 호모 사피엔스(Homo Sapiens)에 머물렀던 인류에게 새로운 진화 가능성과 도구적 이성(理性)이 직면한 현대 사회의 문제에 대한 해결 방향을 제시한다. 영성은 영혼과 혼용되기도 하지만 인간을 개별적 대상으로 구분하는 존재적 특성을 강조하면 영혼으로 이해될 수 있다. 반면에 궁극적 실재, 신성한 것, 자연의 본질을 파악하는 과정에서는 기능적 특성으로 이해될 수 있다. 영성의 기능적 특성은 칼톤(Kalton, M.)이 제시한 영성의 수직·수평적 성향과 영성을 정의한 개념 분석을 통해인지적 기능, 정의적 기능, 행동적 기능으로 구분할 수 있다. 이러한 영성의 기능적특성은 ‘자연·초월과의 관계’를 교육과정에서 다루고 있는 도덕교육에 적용할 수 있는 가능성을 높이고 있다. 영성의 기능적 특성을 도덕교육에 접목하려는 본 연구의의의는 첫째, 도덕교육에 대한 이해와 접근의 폭을 넓히고 있다. 도덕교육이 종교 및종교성과는 일정한 거리를 두어야 하지만 인간의 영성은 오히려 도덕교육이 목표로하는 온전한 인성의 형성을 위해 반드시 필요하다. 둘째, 영성의 기능적 특성을 분석함으로써 도덕교육 적용 가능성을 구체화하고 있다. 영성의 인지적·정의적·행동적 기능 특성의 제시는 영성과 관련된 도덕교육 내용의 교육방법 구성에 직접적으로 활용할 수 있다.
A Study on the Functional Characteristics of Spirituality and the Applicability to Moral Education
Human spirituality is a universal trait that distinguishes itself from religion, and it has also a cognitive function that operates in the process of recognizing the unique characteristics of human beings. The proposed Homo Spiritus was presented by David Hawkins in 1986 and it presents a new evolutionary possibility for mankind as Homo sapiens. Homo Spiritus presents a solution to the problem of modern society faced by the functional reason. Spirituality is used in combination with the soul, but as a symbol of human beings, it is used as a symbol of the spirit of the soul. On the other hand, understanding the divine nature, and the nature of Nature can be understood as a functional character in cognitive activity. The functional characteristics of spirituality can be classified into cognitive function, emotional function, and behavioral function through the concept analysis that defines vertical and horizontal tendency and spirituality suggested by Kalton. The functional characteristics of spirituality are increasing the possibility of applying moral education which deals with ‘relationship with nature and transcendence’ in curriculum. The purpose of this study is to grasp the functional characteristics of spirituality in moral education. Although moral education should be kept at a certain distance from religion and religious achievements, human spirituality is indispensable for the formation of a perfect humanity whose goal is moral education. Second, by analyzing the functional characteristics of spirituality, the applicability of moral education is specified. The presentation of cognitive, affective, and behavioral characteristics of spirituality can be directly applied to the teaching method of moral education contents related to spirituality.
